About Us

Quick intro to Clownfish (please read our careers section before applying):

Our business has evolved enormously over the last 15 years, from 18-year-old Matt at his parents’ home to the multi award-winning, multi-million pound, industry-leading company we are today.

We’re proud to be the most in-demand and highest-rated events company in the country… and we plan to keep it that way. That reputation and demand mean we’re growing exponentially and are always looking for new talented people to join us! If you’d like to be part of ‘exceptional’, please read on…

About The Role

Junior AV Technician – Full Time

We are looking for a positive, tech-savvy individual to join us as a Junior AV Technician, working alongside Alasdair, Sam, and Nathan R. You’ll be a key member of our growing AV events team.

Your responsibilities will include delivering and installing sound, lighting, video, sets, and staging at high-end hotels, venues, corporate offices, and exhibition halls predominantly in London. You will operate equipment such as Blackmagic Design Production Switchers, Avolites lighting consoles, Allen & Heath Avantis & SQ digital mixers, and Qlab media servers, ensuring our clients’ events are technically flawless.

We seek ‘techies’ who are positive, team-oriented, and embody a ‘whatever it takes’ attitude. As this is a junior role, we will provide on-the-job training. However, a good (not perfect) technical understanding of at least one discipline (audio, lighting, video, set building, or power) is required to cover most of your role. We will help you develop skills across all disciplines to support our AV events.

We believe that extraordinary events start with extraordinary people willing to work hard. Our portfolio includes events for major brands like HSBC, British Airways, Amazon, KPMG, John Lewis, TikTok, Apple, and Google. Recently, we provided AV for the press launches of World of Warcraft, Black Ops 6, and the 2024 British Watchmakers’ Day.

We will teach you how to integrate into our team and encourage your growth — that’s been the Clownfish way since 2009.

What a Day Might Look Like

Events can occur any day from Monday to Sunday. Shifts are typically 8-12 hours, including travel. Flexibility is essential.

  • Prepping and maintaining AV equipment and loading it into Clownfish vans
  • Spec’ing and allocating equipment using our inventory software
  • Transporting, installing, and operating AV equipment at high-end events
  • Collaborating to make each event memorable and achieve 5-star feedback
  • Lighting: assisting with setup, operating Portman and Clay Paky moving heads, Core uplighters, Titan Tubes, and LED profiles
  • Audio: setting up and operating d&b PA systems, creating balanced live mixes
  • Video: installing cameras, screens, projectors, LED walls, operating switchers and media servers during events
  • Event Planning: supporting logistics, site visits, designing plans, and warehouse duties
  • Supporting other projects like entertainment events, tech support, and warehouse improvements
Role Details

  • Schedule: 5 days a week, Monday to Sunday, minimum 38.75 hours. Shifts are variable and require flexibility. Warehouse work is 9-5:30 pm.
  • Location: Onsite at venues across London and surrounding areas; warehouse in Chessington, Greater London (vehicle access required)
  • Salary: £28,000 – £33,000 per annum, depending on experience, with overtime potential
