Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a Perception Engineer to build real-time perception systems for autonomous aircraft. You will develop advanced perception algorithms, implement sensor fusion, and advance state estimation with diverse mission sensors in both simulation and live flight contexts.

The role emphasizes rapid iteration, collaboration with hardware teams, and validation across simulated and field environments to ensure mission readiness and robust autonomy.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Typically requires many years of related experience with advanced degrees or equivalent.
• Background in Kalman Filters, multi-target tracking, or deep learning–based detection models.
• Familiarity with fusing radar/EO/IR data using probabilistic or rule-based methods.
• Familiarity with SLAM, visual-inertial odometry, or sensor-fused localization in real-time apps.
• Ability to interpret ICDs and hardware integration specs.
• Proficient in version control, debugging, and test-driven development.

Responsibilities

• Develop advanced perception algorithms for object detection, classification, and multi-target tracking across sensor modalities.
• Implement sensor fusion frameworks to generate accurate situational awareness.
• Develop state estimation capabilities for localization and pose estimation with IMU, GPS, and vision data.
• Analyze and utilize sensor ICDs to ensure correct data handling and synchronization.
• Optimize perception pipelines for real-time performance in simulation and real-world settings.
• Collaborate with autonomy, systems, and integration teams to interface outputs with planning modules.
• Validate algorithms in simulated and operational environments.
