Job summary

Shield AI is hiring a Flight Integration Engineer to help deploy autonomy software on unmanned aircraft systems and prepare flight-ready configurations. The role requires hands-on lab and field work, with cross-functional collaboration to ensure mission-critical reliability and safety across deployments.

You will support hardware/software debugging, flight tests, data capture, and ongoing improvement efforts while traveling to test sites and partners. Strong systems thinking is essential.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years related experience with a Bachelor’s, 5+ with a Master’s, or 4 with a PhD.
• Proficiency in C++ and Python; RTOS familiarity and Linux development.
• Experience with sensor integration, sensor fusion, and middleware (ROS, DDS).
• Hands-on flight demos or live exercises experience.

Responsibilities

• System Integration & Deployment — integrate autonomy software on unmanned aircraft systems.
• Pre-flight Preparation — manage build, config, and validation for flight-ready systems.
• On-site Flight Test Support — travel to test sites and support live flight operations.
• Hardware/Software Debugging — diagnose and resolve integration issues.
• Flight Data Capture & Analysis — collect data and support post-test analysis.
• Collaboration Across Teams — work with autonomy, GNC, systems, and test teams.
• Continuous Improvement — build tools to improve timelines and reliability.
• Support Certification & Compliance — assist with documentation for certification.
• Travel — travel 30-40% of the year to offices and flight events.
