Autonomous Breast Surgeon – Lead in Breast Pathways

Job summary

The successful candidate will join the Breast Surgery team at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and will work as an experienced, autonomous clinician within the multidisciplinary breast service.

The post holder will undertake a broad range of clinical responsibilities across the breast pathway, including outpatient clinics, elective surgery, peri-operative care and MDT collaboration, with contributions to cancer pathways and service development.

Responsibilities

• Undertake outpatient breast clinics, including assessment, investigation and ongoing management of new and follow-up patients.
• Support the delivery of the symptomatic breast service and contribute to efficient patient pathways from assessment through to diagnosis and treatment.
• Undertake and support elective breast surgery in accordance with the post holder's competencies and job plan.
• Provide peri-operative and post-operative assessment, clinical management and follow-up of surgical patients.
• Participate in the Breast multidisciplinary team and work closely with surgical, radiological, pathological, oncological, nursing and administrative colleagues.
• Support the service in delivering timely cancer diagnosis and treatment and contribute to improving cancer pathway performance.
• Contribute to elective surgical activity, including weekend operating where required, and cross-cover to support theatre capacity.
• Support the expansion of Breast Surgery activity through the SEC and manage patients attending the SEC as required.
• Work flexibly across Oxford University Hospitals sites according to clinical need and the job plan.
• Participate in governance, audit, quality improvement and service development; contribute to education and supervision of junior staff; maintain CPD and appraisal.
