Job summary

Safran Landing Systems in Gloucester is seeking an Automation Technology Engineer to join a high‑performing team responsible for the deployment, maintenance and continual improvement of our Manufacturing Control System across 130+ assets.

You will optimise PLCs, HMIs and databases, ensuring data quality and structure while collaborating with Production, Maintenance, Engineering and Quality to enable data-driven decisions and to drive digital transformation of our manufacturing ecosystem.

Qualifications

• Industrial automation experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proven PLC/HMI/SCADA programming skills, including SQL.
• Familiar with WinCC Siemens, MES, industrial networks and OPC/Modbus.
• Experience configuring network communications (protocols, switches, VLANs).
• Database management experience (on-premises or cloud).
• Strong project management skills.
• Experience in IIoT and cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, maintain and improve Manufacturing Control System (MCS) for 130+ assets.
• Optimize PLCs, HMIs and databases to ensure data quality.
• Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Engineering and Quality teams to enable data-driven decisions.
• Work with IT to evolve industrial IT infrastructure, ensuring cybersecurity and reliability.

We're currently looking for a passionate and collaborative Automation Technology Engineer to join our team at our Gloucester site to continue our digital transformation of our industrial systems across our facilities.

Your Role

As an Automation Technology Engineer, you'll be part of a small but critical and high performing team responsible for the deployment, maintenance, and continual improvement of our Manufacturing Control System (MCS), supporting 130+ industrial assets - which continues to grow and develop.

You'll optimise our industrial PLCs, HMIs, and databases-ensuring robust data quality and structure. By coordinating closely with Production, Maintenance, Engineering and Quality teams, you'll enable data-driven decisions across our operations.

Key to your role is collaborating with IT to evolve our industrial IT infrastructure, ensuring cybersecurity and reliability while supporting continuous improvement and the smooth delivery of new industrial equipment projects. Your insights and technical skills will help safeguard product quality and drive innovation right through our manufacturing ecosystem.

Essential

• Experience and qualifications in Industrial Automation Technology within a manufacturing environment
• Proven skills in programming languages used in Automation (e.g., PLC programming, ladder logic, HMI/SCADA scripting, SQL)
• Familiarity with technologies such as SCADA/Historian (with WinCC Siemens), process control (MES), industrial networks, and related protocols (OPC, Modbus, TCP/IP)
• Experience in configuring network communications (protocols, switches, VLANs, etc.)
• Database management experience (on-premises and/or cloud-based)
• Strong project management skills
• Experience in IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) and cybersecurity

Desirable

• Experience with the deployment and configuration of manufacturing IT infrastructure
• Cybersecurity qualifications
• Previous involvement in continuous improvement or technology transformation projects
• Great interpersonal skills and the ability to share best practices within an international network
