Job summary

Pertemps Bond in Cheltenham is seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to lead the mechanical design team on automation and special‑purpose machinery projects. You’ll remain hands-on with design, develop concepts through manufacture, and ensure safe, viable outcomes across multiple live projects.

You’ll plan resources, review performance, and drive improvements while collaborating with Project Management, Manufacturing, Electrical Design and Procurement.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading a mechanical design team.
• A strong background in mechanical design with automation or SP machinery.
• Hands-on 3D CAD and good drawing/BOM discipline.
• Experience delivering machinery from concept to manufacture and commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the mechanical design team with direction.
• Hands-on design of special‑purpose machinery and automation systems.
• Plan resources and balance workloads across live projects.
• Oversee projects from concept through manufacture and commissioning.
• Ensure designs are safe, accurate and manufacturable.
• Maintain high standards for 3D models, drawings and BOMs.
• Identify risks and report progress to the Engineering Director.
• Drive continuous improvements in design processes and efficiency.
• Collaborate with Project Management, Manufacturing, Electrical Design and Procurement.
• Set and review department goals and KPIs.
