Job summary

CBSbutler is seeking a Quality Engineer in Telford on a hybrid basis (2 days on site). You will work in a Scrum team on a modernisation programme, driving quality across the SDLC with a focus on test automation, CI/CD and shift-left practices.

The role involves designing automated tests, improving coverage, and coaching engineers on quality engineering best practices across the product stack.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Quality Engineer and with test automation.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and version control.
• Hands-on Java/Spring with automated testing expertise.
• Experience with TDD/BDD and test design techniques.
• Ability to coach development teams and communicate with stakeholders.
• Good understanding of databases and test data management.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement automated test solutions and frameworks.
• Embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Develop automated testing approaches aligned with TDD/BDD.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and automated quality gates.
• Apply risk-based testing and effective test design techniques.
• Analyse requirements and architectures to shape testing strategies.
• Ensure applications are designed for automation and testability.
• Support manual testing where needed.
• Collaborate with developers through pair-programming.
• Coach engineering teams and promote shared quality ownership.
• Manage test data and testing collateral.
• Contribute to unit, system, functional and integration testing.
• Support non-functional testing including performance, accessibility and security.
