Job summary

Royal Mail is recruiting an Automation Maintenance Engineer for the Midlands Super Hub in Crick to safeguard and optimise cutting-edge automation systems. The role covers a 40-hour week with a rotating shift pattern, including nights and weekends as required to meet 24/7 operations.

You will perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance, drive improvements from concept to implementation, and collaborate with engineering leaders to log faults and produce reports.

Qualifications

  • Qualified in electrical and mechanical engineering, with relevant site experience.
  • Experience maintaining automation equipment, ideally with PLC knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices.
  • A proactive team player who can work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Keep automation assets performing through preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects from concept to implementation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Manager and team leaders; complete reports and log faults.
  • Diagnose and resolve automation breakdowns quickly to keep operations running.
  • Monitor performance and work with stakeholders to boost output.
  • Take ownership of continuous improvement projects focused on hub machinery.

Are you a skilled multi-disciplinary engineer looking for a role that challenges and rewards? We’re seeking a Automation Maintenance Engineer, at our Midlands Super Hub, Dirft Drive, Crick, NN6 7GZ site, to ensure the smooth running of our cutting-edge automation systems.

In this role your potential earning will be over £54,000 per annum.

Salary & Benefits
  • £54,791 per annum
  • plus night shift allowance
  • 22.5 days annual leave with bank holidays

  • A weekend supplement for Saturday (£54.73 per attendance) and Sunday (£109.47 per attendance) shift attendance is applicable.

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Shift attendance equates to 40.00 hours per week - Full time.

The successful candidate will be required to follow the location’s shift rotation system, as outlined below with some degree of flexibility to meet our 24/7 operational needs on occasion, including voluntary overtime coverage and occasional shift pattern flexibility.

The role will cover early, late and night shifts

The role will cover an 8 week rota of 2 weeks days and 2 weeks nights and will include weekend working example rota below.

Panama shift pattern - Days - 06:30 - 18:30 | Nights - 18:30 - 06:30 | Days - 07:00 - 19:00 | Nights - 19:00 - 07:00

The Role
  • Keep our automation assets performing at their best through preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects from concept to implementation.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and team leaders, completing reports and logging faults.
  • Diagnose and resolve automation breakdowns quickly to keep operations flowing.
  • Monitor performance and work with stakeholders to boost output.
  • Take ownership of Continuous Improvement projects — from concept to implementation — focused on enhancing machinery performance in our Hub/Mail Centre.
About You
  • Qualified in electrical and mechanical engineering (minimum ONC Electrical Engineering / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Experienced in maintaining automation equipment, ideally with PLC knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation.
  • A proactive team player who can also work independently.
  • Full manual UK driving licence (for occasional travel to other sites).
