Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking an Automation Maintenance Engineer at Leeds Mail Centre to ensure smooth operation of cutting-edge automation systems. You will perform preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance, and collaborate with the Engineering Manager and team leaders to log faults and improve performance.

The ideal candidate has electrical and mechanical engineering qualifications, PLC knowledge, a solid safety mindset, and a UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Qualified in electrical and mechanical engineering (ONC/NVQ3 or equivalent).
• Hands-on automation maintenance experience, PLC knowledge preferred.
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Keep automation assets performing through preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance.

• Diagnose and resolve automation breakdowns quickly to maintain operations.

Are you a skilled multi-disciplinary engineer looking for a role that challenges and rewards? We’re seeking a Automation Maintenance Engineer, at our Leeds Mail Centre, Leodis Way, Stourton, Leeds , LS10 1AZ site, to ensure the smooth running of our cutting-edge automation systems.

In this role your potential earning will be over £55,000 per annum and you may be eligible for a welcome bonus of £1,500, subject to terms and conditions.

Salary: £54,791 per annum, plus night shift allowance, equivalent to 22.5 days annual leave with bank holidays and a defined contribution pension scheme. A Saturday (£54.17 per attendance) and Sunday (£109.47 per attendance) shift attendance is applicable.

Contract: Permanent

Attendance: Full time, shift attendance equates to 40 hours per week, 12-hour shifts on a rota basis to cover days, nights and weekends. The full rota will be discussed at interview.

The successful candidate will be required to follow Leeds Mail Centre shift rotation system, with flexibility to meet our 24/7 operational needs , including voluntary overtime coverage and shift pattern flexibility.

The Role

• Keep our automation assets performing at their best through preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance
• Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and team leaders, completing reports and logging faults
• Diagnose and resolve automation breakdowns quickly to keep operations flowing.
• Monitor performance and work with stakeholders to boost output.
• Take ownership of Continuous Improvement projects, from concept to implementation, focused on enhancing machinery performance in our Mail Centre.

About You

• Qualified in both electrical and mechanical engineering (minimum ONC Electrical Engineering / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) – essential requirement
• From an automation engineering background ideally a logistics, distribution, or FPCG warehouse environment – essential requirement
• Extensive hands-on experience in maintaining automation equipment, ideally with PLC knowledge
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation
• A proactive team player who can also work independently
• Full UK manual driving licence (for occasional travel to other sites)
