Job summary

Thames Water is seeking an experienced Instrumentation, Control and Automation Technician to support the Hatfield-based sewage pumping team around Mill Green and surrounding areas. You’ll work at Mill Green STW and up to ~270 pumping stations, applying skills across pumps, actuated valves, flow and pressure measurement, PLCs, VSDs and dosing systems.

You will investigate faults, repair quickly, and perform planned maintenance to improve plant resilience, with a typical 38-hour week (Mon-Fri) and

Qualifications

• Qualified to HNC level or NVQ3 in instrumentation, control and automation.
• 18th Edition (BS7671) qualification preferred.
• Good practical understanding of operational plant and control systems.
• Experience with Wonderware and ClearSCADA desirable.
• Knowledge of relay logic and PLCs (Rockwell & Allen-Bradley).
• Ability to read circuit diagrams and fault-find, including inverter drives.
• Experience in calibration and maintenance of front-line instrumentation.
• Problem solver with proactive issue resolution.
• Excellent communicator with internal and external staff.
• Resilient and capable of working under pressure in a changing environment.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance on instrumentation, control and automation equipment.
• Investigate plant faults and carry out repairs to minimize downtime.
• Plan and perform scheduled maintenance to improve plant resilience.
• Work on pumps, valves, sensors, PLCs and related controls.
• Read diagrams and fault-find using instrumentation knowledge.
