Job summary

Elsevier's Search and AI Platform invites a Quality Engineer to own automation-first testing of APIs and backend services. You will collaborate with software engineers and tech leads to ensure reliable, scalable services powering Scopus and ScienceDirect.

You will design and maintain automated test suites (Karate, Cucumber with RestAssured) in Java, integrate tests into CI/CD, and contribute to contract testing and observability with New Relic.

Qualifications

• Solid hands-on automation experience in software testing.
• Experience with API testing and contract testing, data formats and service interactions.
• Strong coding/scripting ability in Java.
• Hands-on experience with Karate, Cucumber with RestAssured.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and integrating testing at multiple levels.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum teams and collaboration.
• Exposure to observability tooling such as New Relic.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain automated test suites for APIs and backend services using Karate, Cucumber with RestAssured.
• Write clean, maintainable automated tests in Java for fast, accurate feedback.
• Validate functional and non-functional behaviour of search services and their interactions.
• Contribute to contract testing and service-level testing strategies across REST and GraphQL.
• Integrate automated tests within CI/CD pipelines across the stack.
• Use observability tooling to support diagnosis and quality analysis.
• Analyze problems and lead engineering discussions on quality improvements.
• Assist in incident reviews and post-mortems, improving test coverage.
