Job summary

Siemens Gamesa in Hull seeks an Automation Engineer to support automated manufacturing processes in our blade facility. You will maintain, troubleshoot, and commission advanced automation systems to maximize uptime and safety.

You will program Siemens PLCs with TIA Portal, diagnose faults across drives, HMIs and networks, and collaborate with global teams to drive improvements and ensure compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent HNC/HND with experience.
• Advanced knowledge of Siemens PLCs and automation systems.
• Extensive experience with TIA Portal for programming and maintenance.
• Experience with drive technologies, HMIs and industrial control systems.
• Strong understanding of industrial networking and Ethernet/IP.
• Experience designing, maintaining and upgrading automated equipment in manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience supporting production and minimizing downtime.
• Familiarity with FAT/SAT processes and change control.
• Understanding of Functional Safety and risk assessments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, improve, and commission advanced automation systems in manufacturing.
• Program, configure, troubleshoot Siemens PLCs using TIA Portal.
• Diagnose faults across PLCs, drives, HMIs, and industrial networks.
• Lead or support FAT, SAT and commissioning of new equipment.
• Create and align technical specifications for new systems.
• Design upgrades to improve safety, reliability, and performance.
• Manage PLC backups and engineering change control processes.
• Collaborate with global teams, suppliers, and maintenance for improvements.
• Develop technical documentation and risk assessments.
• Drive continuous improvement for manufacturing efficiency and equipment reliability.
