Job summary

Amcor in the United Kingdom is seeking an automation technician to maintain and optimise production lines. You will perform preventive maintenance, respond to breakdowns and support CI projects with a focus on safe, sustainable packaging technologies.

You will show experience with PLC platforms, control systems, inverters, servo drives and HMI panels, and you will contribute to design improvements with OEMs and project teams while keeping safety and 6S standards front and center.

Qualifications

  • GCSE grade 4/C or above and a Level 3 engineering qualification (electrical).
  • Electrical qualification preferred or included with the Level 3.
  • Experience with electrical control systems is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain automation and electrical systems on production lines.
  • Execute preventive and autonomous maintenance programs.
  • Modernise PLC platforms and integrated control systems.
  • Collaborate with OEMs and project teams to improve designs.
  • Ensure safety, 6S and BRC compliance in the engineering environment.

Job description

As part of our world-class, performance-focused team you'll work in a dedicated role of automation including all aspects of maintenance, preventive maintenance programs and breakdowns, and a supporting role with C.I. projects and refurbishment as required where machine safety systems are correct for the environment and safe working practices are paramount. Reporting to the Automation Lead.

Key Job Accountabilities
  • As part of the Automation Team, you'll be responsible for…
  • Modernising PLC platforms and integrated control systems with a demonstrable ability to problem solve and write code
  • Integration of technology within new and existing systems including process control, end-of-line automation, data acquisition, vision and validation systems
  • Reading and updating Schematics and Documentation
  • Design Contribution, Delivery & Commissioning of manufacturing capability
  • Automation & Electrical Obsolescence mitigation
  • Proactively implementing sustainable ways of working to ensure asset capability, availability and performance
  • Keeping up to date with the latest automation and systems technology.
  • Identifying opportunities to optimise and improve through the adoption and integration of automation.
  • Working with project teams and OEMs to influence design improvement.
  • Work to set a program of preventative and autonomous maintenance.
  • Reactive to breakdowns as required by Automation Lead.
  • To complete all tasks in accordance with the relevant work procedures.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and professionally.
  • Communicating all relevant information to the Automation Lead.
  • Any other tasks requested to aid the efficient running of the engineering environment.
  • To ensure that the work area is maintained in a safe and clean condition in accordance with site BRC and 6S standards and always being mindful of H&S requirements.
  • Undertake tasks following the EHS Policies with due regard to the health and safety of themselves, their co-workers and visitors, following Company Safe Working Practices and all hygiene rules.
  • Alert management immediately of any significant changes to business risks and internal controls effectiveness and any breach thereof.

Education

GCSE Grades 4/C or above, minimum L3 Engineering qualification which includes or have a separate electrical qualification.

Skills/Experience

Experience of production equipment, lines and packaging systems, H&S knowledge incl machine safety regulations and legislation. Experience of working on inverters, servo drives and HMI panels.

Personality/Attributes

Adaptable, manages risk, accountable, reliable, plays for Team Amcor and does the right thing.

Additional Requirements

Computer literate on MSO applications, strong communication skills.
