Job summary

Amcor Swansea is seeking an OHSE Manager to lead all OHSE activities for the site. You will deploy AFEMEA strategies, oversee legal compliance, and support production with robust safety and environmental practices.

The role requires a professional health & safety qualification, experience in a manufacturing setting, and strong communication. You will chair safety committees and drive continuous improvement across the site.

Qualifications

  • Professional Health & Safety qualification.
  • Experience in a similar position within a production environment.
  • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written form.
  • Scientific, Engineering or Mathematical qualifications of a good standard (at least A-level, preferably degree).
  • Experience in the packaging industry in a technical, CI or operational role.
  • OHSE expertise, ability to drive improvement, motivate teams and manage risk.

Responsibilities

  • OHSE representation and chair Safety Committee meetings.
  • Attend safety meetings and audits, reporting progress to management.
  • Agree improvement priorities and injury prevention plans with senior team.
  • Investigate health, safety and environmental incidents to required standard.
  • Maintain OHSE records and ensure compliance with ISO/OHSAS frameworks.
  • Deliver training on new/improved installations and safety processes.

Job Purpose

The OHSE Manager provides overall management of all matters related to OHSE for the Swansea site. They are responsible for deploying AFEMEA strategic initiatives and supports development of initiatives together with plant management. They are responsible for fulfilment of legal requirements, AFEMEA policies in line with regulations and corporate guidelines.

  • Key holder of site OHSE policy and action plans
  • Assist management to comply with both Amcor OHSE Objectives and all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Keep abreast of all H&S legislations best practice. Advice site management accordingly
  • Attend all safety committee meetings and regional OHSE team meetings, preparing reports.
  • Investigate Health, Safety & Environment incidents fully, to the required standard.
  • Support good communication in the organisation across the engineering and production teams.
Principal Accountabilities
  • OHSE representation
  • Chair Safety Committee & Safety Steerco meetings.
  • Attend other Amcor Health and Safety meetings, seminars and undertake visits to Amcor site suppliers and customers as appropriate.
  • Agree improvement priorities & injury prevention plans with the senior management team.
  • Implement any other aims and objectives relating to Health and Safety at Work specified by the Management Team; (deliver on time is essential)
  • Implement and manage allocated projects, reporting progress to the appropriate Managers on a regular basis.
  • OHSE projects to be formally signed off as completed and handed over in a safe condition to respective production staff with all relevant risk assessments and training and communications complete.
  • Analyse all LTI’s RC and NM to prioritise and put in place effective corrective actions.
  • Compliance
  • Keep abreast of all relevant OHSE legislation & ensure it is complied with.
  • Maintain OHSE procedures and lead audits to OHSAS, ISO 18001
  • Assist site to ensure the Company’s obligations in respect of assessment, control and monitoring of hazardous substances are met.
  • Assist site to ensure the Company’s obligations in respect of risk assessments, control and monitoring of the workplace, work equipment, manual handling equipment operations, personal protective equipment, and display screen are met.
  • Reporting & documentation
  • Maintain all OHSE records, produce reports and statistics as required.
  • Provide accident statistics within monthly & 6 monthly compliance reports.
  • Publish and communicate H&S policies and activities.
  • Maintain an effective Health and Safety communication system throughout the business.
  • Assist the management team to adopt standardisation in all documentation and systems for future use within Amcor Flexibles.
  • Incident investigations
  • Use incidents in Swansea and other sites to extract relevant learnings and improvement opportunities and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
  • Investigate safety & environmental incidents.
  • Ensure accident investigation is carried out with the appropriate manage to an acceptable standard.
  • Assist in the provision of information for any insurance claims received.
  • In addition to the above the role holder will be expected to undertake all reasonable tasks requested by Management.
  • Operational support
  • Assist in the delivery of agreed company training on new/improved installations in areas of expertise.
  • Attend regular operations review meetings at the appropriate level to develop the process.
  • Ensure all operational and engineering tasks are properly risk assessed and communicated to the appropriate personnel.
