Job summary

Academics in Wantage is seeking an Autism Support Assistant to provide personalised support to students throughout the school day. You will work closely with our teaching team to help children develop confidence, independence and life skills in a specialist education setting.

The role focuses on 1:1 and small-group support, targeted interventions and helping students access lessons. An ASAP start is available with a pay rate of £85-£105 per day.

Qualifications

• Experience with autistic children or young people is preferred, in school, care, nursery, college or community settings.
• It may be your first opportunity in specialist education.

What will you be doing?

As an Autism Support Assistant, you'll work closely with our teaching team to provide personalised support to students throughout the school day.

Your day could include:

• Supporting students on a 1:1 or small-group basis.
• Delivering targeted interventions designed around individual needs.
• Supporting communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and independence.
• Helping students access lessons and take part in school life.
• Encouraging students to develop new skills and become as independent as possible.
• Recording and celebrating progress, however big or small.

You might already have experience working with autistic children or young people, perhaps in a school, care setting, nursery, college or community environment. Or you may be looking for your first opportunity in specialist education.
