Qualifications

  • Previous SEN/Autism support experience.
  • Level 1 Safeguarding (or willingness to complete).
  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • Valid photo ID and up-to-date references.
  • Immediate availability.

Responsibilities

Autism Support Assistant

Location: Erdington
Pay: £85–£95 per day
Contract: Full-time, ongoing

The Role

Balfor Education is seeking a dedicated Autism Support Assistant to work 1:1 with a pupil (11‑14) who has autism, learning challenges, and speech/language needs. You will support the child’s communication, emotional regulation, and academic access, working closely with the class teacher and SEN team. Your role will also involve assisting with classroom routines and supporting inclusive learning environments.

What We’re Looking For
  • Experience working with children with autism and other SEN (speech/language, cognition & learning)
  • Confident delivering 1:1 and small group support
  • Calm, patient, and structured approach
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or visual strategies (advantageous)
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
