Job summary

Teaching Personnel in Cardiff is seeking a resilient Autism Support Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for pupils aged 3-19 with a range of disabilities and ALN. The role is hands-on, requiring flexibility as you work across key stages to help pupils feel safe and capable of progress.

We require a calm, patient approach, strong relationships, and effective de-escalation skills. The position runs 8:30am–3:30pm, with pay at £14.25 per hour for a full academic year.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN and challenging behaviours.
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service.
  • Level 2 Safeguarding training.
  • At least two professional references covering the past two years.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver consistent 1:1 and small group support during lessons and activities.
  • Implement strategies to manage and de-escalate behaviour.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Support pupils with mobility and sensory needs when required.

About the Role

Teaching Personnel is currently seeking a resilient, empathetic, and committed Autism Support Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for young people aged 3-19 with a range of disabilities and Additional Learning Needs (ALN).

This is a hands-on role that requires flexibility, as each day can bring new challenges and changes. You’ll be working across various key stages, supporting pupils who may struggle to engage in a typical classroom environment. Your role will be to help them feel safe, understood, and capable of progress.

We’re looking for someone with a calm and patient approach, who can build positive relationships and apply effective de-escalation techniques when needed. The ability to remain composed under pressure is essential in helping pupils feel supported and ready to learn.
