Job summary

Vision for Education, partnering with a welcoming primary school in Burnley, is seeking a Specialist Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child with autism. The role focuses on helping the pupil access learning, build independence, and stay safe and supported throughout the school day.

The ideal candidate will have experience with autism, patience, and a nurturing approach, with strong communication and teamwork skills to work closely with the SENCO and school staff.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children with autism or ASC.
• Patience, nurture and understanding of additional needs.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child with ASC.
• Assist child to access curriculum and participate in activities.
• Build positive, trusting relationships to support safety and learning.
• Support communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.
• Adapt strategies to meet sensory needs and manage challenges.
• Encourage independence and positive behaviour.
• Assist transitions between lessons and daily routines.
• Collaborate with class teacher, SENCO and staff to ensure consistency.
