Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking an experienced Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Hendon, North West London. You will support pupils aged ~7–14 with autism across KS2/KS3, delivering tailored 1:1 and small-group sessions and implementing individual learning plans.

The role requires substantial hands-on autism experience, skills in communication and behaviour support, and the ability to assist with personal care when needed. This is a long-term position with CPD opportunities.

Qualifications

• Significant experience supporting children and young people with autism (ASD).
• Experience working with KS2 and KS3 age groups.
• Strong understanding of autism communication, sensory processing, emotional regulation and social interaction.
• Experience supporting both verbal and non-verbal pupils and alternative communication methods.
• Confidence managing behaviours that challenge with positive behaviour support and de-escalation.
• Willingness to assist with personal care when required (toileting, hygiene, etc.).
• Ability to provide effective 1:1 and small-group support while encouraging independence.
• Calm, patient, resilient and nurturing approach.
• Genuine passion for supporting pupils with complex SEND needs.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils aged ~7–14 with learning, communication and emotional development.
• Deliver tailored 1:1 and small-group sessions aligned with individual plans and EHCP targets.
• Adapt strategies for varying autism-related support needs.
• Assist with personal care to safeguard dignity, safety and wellbeing.
• Support sensory regulation, positive behaviour and smooth transitions during the day.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and support staff in a structured learning environment.
• Encourage independence, confidence and essential life skills.
