Job summary

Axcis Education is recruiting a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to work in a Birmingham specialist school supporting pupils aged 9-16 with ASC and EHCPs. The role requires resilience, strong behaviour management, and the ability to de-escalate.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups to help pupils access lessons and achieve targets. The position offers daily pay of £92.63, with free CPD, ongoing local support, and long-term placements within a leading SEND recruitment agency.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with Autism, SEND, SEMH, ADHD, or behavioural needs.
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
• Experience within education, youth work, care, support work, or mentoring.
• Patient, resilient and proactive approach.
• The confidence to support pupils who may display challenging behaviours.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• Full-time availability, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with Autism on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
• Assist students in accessing lessons and achieving individual targets.
• Manage and support challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies.
• Promote emotional regulation, engagement, and social development.
• Build positive, consistent relationships with pupils.
• Support students with SEMH, ADHD, and communication needs.
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams.
• Create a calm, safe, and structured learning environment.
• Encourage independence, confidence, and positive outcomes.
