Job summary

Milk Education is sourcing a Learning Support Assistant for a specialist SEN provision in Feltham, supporting pupils with autism. The role focuses on 1:1 and small group support to enhance communication, independence and progression.

You will work with teachers, therapists and other professionals, following EHCP targets and TEACCH approaches, in a setting with high staffing ratios and individualised plans.

Qualifications

• A degree in psychology, education, sociology, criminology, occupational therapy or related field (or currently studying).
• Experience in care, youth work, mentoring, support work or volunteering with children or adults with additional needs.
• Knowledge of or interest in autism, SEN and child development.
• Calm, consistent and patient approach.
• Strong communication skills and a team mindset.

Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with autism and additional needs.
• Supporting communication using visuals, Makaton, PECS or other approaches.
• Helping pupils manage sensory needs, routines and transitions through the day.
• Following individual support plans, EHCP targets and TEACCH.
• Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour, including calm de-escalation when needed.
• Encouraging independence, life skills and social interaction.
• Working alongside teachers, speech and language therapists, OTs and other professionals.
