Job summary

The Lady Byron School is seeking a Practitioner – Specialist Autism Provision to work with autistic pupils, delivering targeted learning activities and assessments, alongside teachers and the wider specialist team.

The role provides 32.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am–4:00pm, on-site with a permanent contract and salary £24,650–£29,150 FTE, depending on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above or equivalent.
  • A relevant teaching assistant/support qualification or suitable experience.
  • Experience of working with children or young people in an educational or learning environment.
  • Good communication, literacy, numeracy and organisational skills.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
  • A commitment to ongoing training and professional development.
  • Experience of working with autistic pupils or SEND would be advantageous, as would experience delivering interventions or leading learning activities.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside teachers, pathway leads and the specialist team to support autistic pupils.
  • Plan, deliver and assess targeted learning activities and interventions.
  • Lead small-group and, where appropriate, whole-class learning activities.
  • Provide individualised academic, pastoral and emotional support.
  • Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation and behaviour.
  • Help pupils develop independence, resilience, confidence and positive relationships.
  • Contribute to pupils' Person Centred Education Plans (PCEPs).
  • Adapt resources and approaches to meet individual learning and sensory needs.
  • Monitor, record and contribute to pupil progress assessments.
  • Support classroom organisation and the preparation of high-quality learning resources.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents/carers and external professionals.
  • Support educational visits, enrichment activities and wider school experiences.
  • Contribute to development of the specialist autism provision.
