Baston House School in Bromley, Kent, is seeking an Autism Practitioner to support students with autism in a safe, structured learning environment. You will work with teachers and the multi-professional team to provide personalised support, encourage independence, and help students reach their potential.

The role is permanent, term-time only, 37.5 hours per week, 8:30am-4:30pm, with a salary of £24,675 per annum. UK applicants only; DBS checks apply.

Qualifications

• GCSEs in English and Maths at minimum Level 4.
• Experience working with pupils with autism.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Adaptable, patient and proactive, committed to helping pupils reach their potential.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in delivering inclusive education for students with autism.
• Assist in implementing school policies and individual education plans.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to help students access the curriculum.
• Promote physical, academic, social and moral development.
• Organise engaging classroom environments and displays.
• Assist with preparation and upkeep of BSPs, IEPs, Communication Profiles and risk assessments.
• Collaborate with staff to ensure student safety on and off-site.

About the Role

As an AutismPractitioner, you'll play a vital role in helping young people feel understood, supported and confident in their learning. You'll create a safe, structured and engaging environment where students can thrive, develop their independence and build positive relationships.

Working alongside teachers, tutors and our wider multi-professional team, you'll provide personalised support that reflects each student's individual strengths, needs and goals. You'll help remove barriers to learning, encourage social and emotional development, and celebrate progress every step of the way.

You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to planning and delivering engaging activities, adapting resources and using tailored interventions to help every student reach their potential.

Key Responsibilities

• Support teachers and tutors in delivering high-quality, inclusive education for students with autism
• Assist in the implementation of school policies, procedures, and individualised education plans
• Provide targeted one-to-one and small group support to enable students to access the curriculum with increasing independence
• Promote students’ physical, academic, social, and moral development
• Organise and maintain engaging classroom environments, including resources and displays
• Contribute to the preparation and upkeep of student documentation, such as Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Communication Profiles, Risk Assessments, and Pastoral Support Plans
• Work collaboratively with staff to ensure student safety both on and off-site, in line with risk assessments
• Contribute to the school’s ongoing development, improvement plans, and wider initiatives

About You

We're looking for someone who:

• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at minimum Level 4 (Grade C)
• Has experience working with pupils with autism and/or challenging behaviour
• Can work independently and as part of a team
• Has strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Is adaptable, patient, and proactive, committed to helping pupils achieve their potential
