Job summary

WestonBrook Associates in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, is seeking an Audit Senior to manage a diverse portfolio of audit clients from planning through to completion. You will collaborate with Managers and Partners, deliver high‑quality statutory audits, review financial statements, and nurture client relationships.

Applicants must be ACA or ACCA qualified with at least four years' external audit experience in a UK practice, and comfortable mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• ACA or ACCA fully qualified.
• Minimum of 4 years' external audit experience in a UK practice.
• Experience in small/medium practice advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of UK auditing standards and financial reporting.
• Ability to lead audit assignments and manage client relationships.
• Experience reviewing statutory financial statements.

Responsibilities

• Managing audit assignments from planning through to completion across a varied client portfolio.
• Leading audit fieldwork, identifying key risks, and delivering high-quality audit documentation.
• Reviewing financial statements, statutory accounts, and completion files.
• Identifying audit findings, control weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.
• Acting as a primary point of contact for clients, building strong relationships.
• Managing multiple engagements, meeting deadlines and budgets.
• Mentoring junior team members and ensuring quality outputs.
• Maintaining compliance with UK audit, accounting, and ethical standards.

WestonBrook Associates are delighted to be supporting a highly reputable and well‑known Hertfordshire‑based accountancy practice with multiple offices across the region. Due to continued growth, the firm is now looking to appoint an experienced and qualified (ACA/ACCA) Audit Senior to join its Head Office team based in Hitchin.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified audit professional to join an established and highly respected independent firm with a strong regional presence and loyal client base. Working closely with Managers and Partners, you will take ownership of audit assignments from planning through to completion whilst building long‑term client relationships and supporting the development of junior team members.

The Role

As an Audit Senior, you will be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of audit clients, delivering high‑quality audit engagements, and ensuring assignments are completed efficiently, accurately, and in line with professional standards.

• Managing audit assignments from planning through to completion across a varied client portfolio.
• Leading audit fieldwork, identifying key risks, and delivering high‑quality audit documentation.
• Reviewing financial statements, statutory accounts, and completion files.
• Identifying audit findings, control weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.
• Acting as a primary point of contact for clients, building strong and lasting relationships.
• Managing multiple engagements simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
• Supporting, mentoring, and reviewing the work of junior team members.
• Maintaining compliance with UK audit, accounting, and ethical standards.
• Collaborating with Partners, Managers, and wider teams to deliver an exceptional client service.

About You

• ACA or ACCA fully qualified.
• Minimum of 4 years' recent external audit experience gained within a UK accountancy practice environment.
• Experience gained within a small to medium‑sized accountancy practice (not Top 6) would be highly advantageous.
• Strong technical knowledge of UK auditing standards and financial reporting requirements.
• Proven ability to lead audit assignments and manage client relationships effectively.
• Experience reviewing statutory financial statements and associated disclosures.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a professional and client‑focused approach.
• Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior staff would be beneficial.
• Ideally experienced in the use of CaseWare and Xero software.
• Commercially aware, proactive, and committed to delivering a high standard of client service.
