Would you enjoy leading audits from planning through to completion, building strong client relationships and working closely with experienced Managers and Partners? This is an excellent opportunity to join an established 10 Partner Firm in Birmingham, offering flexible working, exposure to a broad range of sectors and the opportunity to progress within a growing audit team.

About the Firm

This established independent accountancy practice has approximately 100 professionals, providing a comprehensive range of audit, accountancy, tax and business advisory services to SMEs, owner-managed businesses, charities and not-for-profit organisations.

The firm combines the technical expertise of a larger regional practice with the personal, relationship-led approach of an independent firm. Its audit team works with a varied portfolio of clients across different industries, offering opportunities to gain experience across statutory audits, accounts preparation and wider advisory assignments.

With an approachable leadership team, structured mentoring and continued investment in professional development, the firm provides an excellent environment for ambitious auditors looking to take greater ownership of their work, develop their technical skills and progress towards management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead statutory audit assignments from planning through to completion for a varied portfolio of SMEs, charities and corporate clients.
  • Manage audit fieldwork, ensuring assignments are completed efficiently, within agreed deadlines and to a high technical standard.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and resolving audit queries throughout engagements.
  • Prepare and review audit working papers, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP and relevant auditing standards.
  • Supervise, mentor and review the work of junior audit team members, providing technical guidance and constructive feedback.
  • Prepare statutory accounts and corporation tax computations where required, gaining exposure to a broader range of accounting assignments.
  • Identify audit risks, weaknesses in internal controls and opportunities to improve clients' financial processes.
  • Work closely with Managers and Partners on technical matters, client relationships and wider advisory opportunities.

As an Audit Senior you will:

  • Be ACA or ACCA qualified, or approaching completion of your professional qualifications.
  • Have strong external audit experience gained within a UK accountancy practice.
  • Be confident leading audit assignments from planning through to completion.
  • Demonstrate sound technical knowledge of UK GAAP, FRS 102 and relevant auditing standards.
  • Have experience supervising junior colleagues and reviewing their work.
