Job summary

Ken Stimpson Academy is seeking an Attendance and Welfare Officer to strengthen our pastoral and safeguarding team. The role focuses on improving student attendance, reducing persistent absence, and supporting vulnerable students through early intervention and family engagement.

You will work with the Attendance Lead, safeguarding team, and external partners to implement interventions, carry out welfare checks, and ensure accurate attendance records for required processes.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children, young people or families.
• Knowledge of school attendance processes.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage a caseload and prioritise effectively.
• Experience interpreting and using data to support interventions.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
• Confidence to support and professionally challenge families.
• Strong ICT, administration and record-keeping skills.
• Commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.

Responsibilities

• Monitor attendance and punctuality across the academy.
• Identify patterns of absence and coordinate interventions to improve attendance.
• Carry out first-day response procedures, welfare checks and home visits.
• Work directly with students and families to overcome barriers to attendance.
• Lead and participate in attendance meetings with parents and carers.
• Support reintegration plans following absence, suspension or reduced timetables.
• Work with safeguarding, SEND and pastoral teams to identify and support vulnerable students.
• Contribute to Family Help and multi-agency support plans.
• Use attendance data and systems (e.g., Bromcom, FFT, DfE tools) to monitor impact and drive improvement.
• Maintain accurate records and provide evidence for statutory attendance processes.
