Job summary

Boston Spa Academy is seeking to appoint a dedicated Attendance and Welfare Officer to join our pastoral team. This role focuses on promoting excellent attendance and punctuality, removing barriers to learning, and supporting students to reach their full potential.

The ideal candidate will have a clean driving license, experience with young people, strong communication, and a solid understanding of attendance processes and safeguarding.

Qualifications

• Full clean driving licence.
• Experience of working with young people, ideally in a secondary school environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents/carers, colleagues and external agencies.
• Strong understanding of attendance processes, safeguarding responsibilities and factors affecting attendance and wellbeing.
• Ability to analyse attendance data effectively to inform targeted interventions.
• Passion, drive and resilience to improve outcomes for young people.

Responsibilities

• Monitor attendance data and identify patterns to inform interventions.
• Identify and remove barriers to attendance for individual pupils.
• Conduct home visits when required and coordinate with families and external agencies.
• Build positive relationships with students, parents/carers and school staff to support wellbeing.
• Collaborate with pastoral leaders to implement targeted attendance strategies.

What skills and experience we're looking for

Boston Spa Academy is seeking to appoint a dedicated, resilient and highly motivated Attendance and Welfare Officer to join our pastoral team. This is a key role within the academy, focused on promoting excellent attendance and punctuality, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

The successful candidate will work closely with students, families, pastoral leaders and external agencies to identify and remove barriers to attendance. They will monitor attendance data, support intervention strategies, conduct home visits where required and build positive relationships with parents and carers to improve outcomes for young people. The role demands a proactive and compassionate individual who is committed to making a difference in the lives of students and ensuring high levels of attendance across the academy.

The idea candidate will have:

• A full clean driving license.
• Experience of working with young people and supporting them to overcome barriers to success, ideally within a secondary school environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents/carers, colleagues and external agencies.
• A strong understanding of attendance processes, safeguarding responsibilities and the factors that can impact student attendance and wellbeing.
• The ability to analyse attendance data effectively and use this information to inform targeted intervention strategies.
• A passion for improving outcomes for young people, together with the drive, resilience and determination to make a positive difference to students’ lives.
