Job description

Location: Birmingham (Hybrid Working)
Lead Projects. Build Relationships. Grow a Business.

This is more than an Associate Director position.

It's an opportunity to become a key part of one of the UK's leading healthcare consultancies, helping shape the future of Programme and Project Management while delivering projects that have a lasting impact on healthcare environments and patient outcomes.

We're looking for an experienced Project Management leader who combines outstanding technical delivery with the commercial mindset to grow client relationships, win new business and develop a high-performing team.

You’ll already have an excellent reputation for delivering complex capital projects, but equally importantly, you’ll enjoy building trusted relationships, developing people and identifying opportunities to expand existing client accounts.

If you’re looking for a role where you can genuinely influence the growth of a business not simply deliver projects this is an exceptional opportunity.

The Opportunity

As an Associate Director, you’ll play a pivotal role in the continued growth of our Programme and Project Management team across the Midlands.

You’ll lead the successful delivery of major healthcare programmes while helping shape the future direction of the business through client development, work winning, strategic account management and mentoring the next generation of Project Managers.

This is a leadership position where you’ll have genuine autonomy, significant client exposure and the opportunity to influence both operational performance and business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead complex healthcare capital projects and programmes from inception through to completion.
  • Provide strategic Programme and Project Management advice to public and private sector clients.
  • Lead multidisciplinary consultant teams across major healthcare developments.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, commercially and to the highest technical standards.
  • Provide governance, programme reporting and senior stakeholder management.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to executive-level client teams.
Client Management
  • Develop long‑term relationships with NHS organisations, private healthcare providers and key stakeholders.
  • Become the trusted partner for existing clients by delivering exceptional service.
  • Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and secure repeat business.
  • Provide strategic advice beyond project delivery, supporting wider capital investment programmes.
  • Represent the business at senior client meetings and industry events.
Business Development & Work Winning

Business development is a key part of this role.

You’ll be expected to play an active role in growing the Programme and Project Management business by:

  • Developing existing client accounts.
  • Identifying new opportunities across healthcare programmes.
  • Supporting bids, tenders and framework submissions.
  • Building a strong pipeline of future work.
  • Developing strategic relationships across the healthcare sector.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to win new commissions.
  • Supporting the continued growth of the Midlands business.
Leadership & Team Development

We’re looking for someone who enjoys building teams as much as delivering projects.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Mentoring and developing Project Managers.
  • Leading and inspiring multidisciplinary teams.
  • Supporting recruitment and succession planning.
  • Helping shape the future capability of the Project Management team.
  • Sharing knowledge and developing technical excellence.
  • Creating a collaborative, high‑performing culture.
  • Supporting the continued growth of the Programme and Project Management profession across the business.
About You

You’ll already be operating at an Associate or Associate Director level within a construction consultancy and be looking for a role where you can have a greater influence on both project delivery and business growth.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys developing client relationships as much as delivering projects and who wants to play an active role in shaping the future of a growing Programme and Project Management team.

You’ll be commercially aware, client‑focused and naturally collaborative, with the credibility to influence senior stakeholders and lead multidisciplinary teams across complex healthcare environments.

What We’re Looking For
  • Consultancy background within Project or Programme Management.
  • Proven delivery of complex capital projects from feasibility through to completion.
  • Strong client‑facing and stakeholder management experience.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary consultant teams.
  • Commercial awareness with responsibility for project financial performance.
  • Experience working within healthcare, public sector or complex built environment projects.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Business Development & Client Growth

Success in this role is about more than technical delivery.

You’ll have a genuine interest in growing the business by:

  • Developing long‑term client relationships.
  • Identifying opportunities for repeat commissions.
  • Winning work through existing and new client contacts.
  • Supporting framework bids and tender submissions.
  • Building strategic relationships across the healthcare sector.
  • Working with Directors to grow the Programme and Project Management service.
  • Raising your profile within the industry and representing the business externally.

You’ll understand that every successful project creates an opportunity for the next commission and you’ll actively look to convert excellent delivery into long‑term partnerships.

Leadership

We’re looking for a leader who enjoys developing people.

You’ll play an important role in helping to grow and strengthen the Project Management team by:

  • Mentoring Project Managers and Senior Project Managers.
  • Supporting recruitment and onboarding.
  • Developing technical capability across the team.
  • Promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Helping shape future leaders within the business.
  • Leading by example through high‑quality project delivery and exceptional client service.

You’ll be someone who motivates others, creates opportunities for development and enjoys seeing people progress in their careers.

Professional Qualifications

Ideally you’ll hold one or more of the following:

  • MRICS
  • MCIOB
  • MAPM / ChPP
  • RIBA
  • CEng (or equivalent)

Experience working under NEC and JCT contracts is highly desirable, with NEC accreditation viewed favourably.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to join a purpose‑driven consultancy where you’ll have the autonomy to influence projects, clients and the wider business.

You’ll work on nationally significant healthcare programmes while helping shape the future growth of an established Programme and Project Management team.

The business actively encourages entrepreneurial thinking, supports career progression and provides an environment where individuals are trusted to build client relationships, develop services and create new opportunities.

If you’re looking for a role where you can genuinely influence strategy, win work, develop people and become a recognised leader within the healthcare sector, this opportunity offers exactly that.

  • Annual Bonus
  • Employee Share Trust (employees own 10% of the business)
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Life Assurance
  • Group Income Protection
  • Pension with employer contributions
  • Hybrid & Flexible Working
  • International Secondment Opportunities
  • Up to 28 Days Annual Leave, with the option to purchase additional leave
  • Enhanced Family‑Friendly Policies
  • Sabbatical & Career Break Opportunities
  • A collaborative culture with genuine investment in personal and professional development.
Who Will Succeed Here?

This role will suit an ambitious Senior Project Manager ready to step into Associate Director level, or an established Associate Director looking for greater influence within a growing business.

You’ll be technically strong, commercially aware and equally comfortable leading complex healthcare projects, managing senior client relationships, mentoring teams and helping secure future work.

Most importantly, you’ll see project delivery as just one part of your role. You’ll enjoy building trusted partnerships, identifying new opportunities, developing people and contributing to the long‑term growth and success of the business.
