Job summary

Warwickshire Police are seeking an Associate Data Engineer with a focus on Power BI to build and maintain data pipelines and reporting solutions across various data stores. You will collaborate with data analysts and stakeholders to ensure accessible, high-quality data.

You will work under the Data Engineer to develop semantic models, transform data, and craft Power BI reports and dashboards. Experience with Azure data services and police data systems is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or with equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Power BI development, including DAX.
  • Familiarity with data modelling concepts and best practices.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL for data extraction and transformation.
  • Knowledge of Police Systems (NEC Connect / Niche RMS).
  • Knowledge of Power Query M.
  • Basic knowledge of Databases and Data lakes in the Azure environment.
  • Coding in a professional capacity.
  • Interest in advanced data approaches (big data, AI, Python, Azure Data Factory).

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Data Engineer to ensure data and data flows align with architecture principles.
  • Implement data collection pipelines aligned to business requirements.
  • Understand data from various sources (databases, APIs, flat files).
  • Maintain existing semantic models.
  • Assist in developing new semantic models integrating multiple sources.
  • Translate business needs into effective BI solutions.
  • Create and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
  • Assist in implementing data transformations, calculated columns, and measures in Power BI.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability in Power BI.
  • Collaborate with data analysts to validate results and troubleshoot issues.
  • Explore ways to enhance data availability, reliability, and quality.
  • Tuning Power BI reports for performance.
  • Address bottlenecks in data.

As anAssociate Data Engineer,with a specialization inPower BI, your primary responsibility will be to build and maintain data pipelines and reporting solutions using Power BI into a variety of data stores e.g. databases and data lakes. You will work closely with data analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure data accessibility and quality.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Data Engineer to ensure the data and data flows are aligned with the enterprise and data architecture principles.
  • Implement data collection pipelines aligned to business requirements.
  • Understand data from various sources (databases, APIs, flat files)
  • Maintain existing semantic models.
  • Under the direction of the Data Engineer, assist in developing new semantic models that integrate data from multiple sources e.g. flat files, databases, and data lakes.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand reporting requirements.
  • Translate business needs into effective BI solutions.
  • Create and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
  • Assist the Data Engineer with implementing data transformations, calculated columns, and measures within Power BI.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability in Power BI.
  • Collaborate with data analysts to validate results and troubleshoot issues.
  • Under the direction of the Data Engineer, explore ways to enhance data availability, reliability, and quality.
  • Work with the Data Engineer and other ICT teams to tune Power BI reports for optimal performance.
  • Identify and work with others to address bottlenecks in data.

Person Specification:
Knowledge:
  • Educated to degree level or with equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency inPower BIdevelopment, including DAX (Data Analysis Expressions).
  • Familiarity with data modelling concepts and best practices.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL for data extraction and transformation.
  • Knowledge of Police Systems (NEC Connect / Niche RMS)
  • Knowledge of Power Query M
  • Basic knowledge of Databases and Data lakes in the Azure environment
  • Coding in a professional capacity
  • An interest/knowledge in more advanced data approaches linked to big data, AI, and Machine Learning e.g. NoSQL, Python, Azure Data Factory
Experience:
  • Min. 3-5 years’ experience working with data and/or analysis
  • Understanding of PowerBI DAX
  • Understanding of Data Modelling best practices
  • Troubleshooting data and code problems
  • Using ETL tools in a support capacity
  • Using Reporting tools in a support capacity
  • Following Technical Design and Support processes
  • Integration with Police systems (NEC Connect / Niche RMS)
  • Understanding of Power Query M
  • Understanding and use of SQL
  • Designed or Supported ETL Systems
  • Designed or Supported Reporting Systems
  • Experience of working with Microsoft Azure platform
  • Experience of working with police data or in a secure setting
