Job summary

Mishcon de Reya LLP’s Construction Group offers a challenging role advising on complex construction disputes for a diverse client base, from developers to contractors. The candidate will work on matters from pre-action through to litigation and ADR, within a renowned London firm.

We seek lawyers with 2-3 years PQE, strong drafting skills, and a commercial, proactive mindset, able to build client relationships and work under pressure in a dynamic team.

Qualifications

  • A good foundation in contentious construction law.
  • 2-3 years' PQE.
  • Trained and qualified with a reputable City law firm or large national firm equivalent.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Good drafting and negotiating skills.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on all stages of construction disputes, including pre-action, court proceedings (TCC), adjudications and ADR including mediation.
  • Engage with owners, developers, contractors, sub-contractors, and consultants to achieve commercial outcomes.
  • Manage own workload efficiently and communicate clearly with partners and stakeholders.

The Construction Group

Our Construction Group acts for a variety of clients ranging from major developers, property investors, banks and occupiers through to contractors, sub-contractors and consultants. We specialize in complex, high-profile developments, in particular acting for high-end developers, and are currently involved in the leading case on the Building Safety Act 2022.

We have assembled a team with practical industry background. Many have been involved in some of the leading decisions in the field of construction law over the last 25 years. We understand our clients' mindset too, be they entrepreneurs, high net worth individuals or institutional clients. It adds up to an approach that is explicitly commercial and focused on delivering the best outcome, whatever any client's construction needs.

Duties And Responsibilities

The role will involve advising on all stages of construction disputes, including pre-action, through the courts (including the Technology and Construction Court), adjudications and various forms of alternative dispute resolution including mediation.

Clients include property owners, developers, contractors, sub-contractors, and consultants.

Skills/Experience
  • A good foundation in contentious construction law.
  • 2-3 years' PQE.
  • Trained and qualified with a reputable City law firm or large national firm equivalent.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Good drafting and negotiating skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively manage own workload.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
  • Personable and confident, able to build relationships with partners/ key stakeholders.
  • Resilient and calm under pressure.
  • Adaptable and flexible approach.
  • Pro-active and takes initiative.
  • Assertive, focused with strong interpersonal skills to be able to present themselves in a confident manner to clients.
  • Organizational and prioritizing skills are also essential to meet the demands of challenging, commercial clients, both internal and external.
