The Business Group is similar in scope to the international Finance team in a multinational bank. Activities include building market awareness of UKEF’s capabilities, developing relationships with exporters, purchasers, and financial institutions, supporting deals through due diligence, and developing products and policies to support UKEF's objectives.

Role Overview

The EO role provides professional support across various business areas. The Assistant Underwriter will be part of the Defence, Shipping, and Space team within the Aerospace and Defence Division, which handles high-profile transactions in these sectors, including recent work with Ukraine and Poland.

The role requires a proactive self-starter capable of managing a busy workload, including administrative tasks like updating checklists, organizing meetings, and supporting case work. There are opportunities to develop client-facing skills and internal relationships with teams such as Risk Management, Pricing, and Legal.

Training and self-development are emphasized, with on-the-job learning about the Defence, Shipping, and Space sectors, although prior knowledge is not required.

Person Specification

• Efficiently progress casework delegated by colleagues, adhering to policies and procedures.
• Participate in meetings and communications with stakeholders, including exporters, banks, and legal teams.
• Research issues during underwriting and provide detailed recommendations.
• Understand customer needs and pressures to support them effectively.
• Gain technical knowledge of BG products and the legal and risk environment of UKEF.
• Maintain complete and current case records and document decisions properly.
• Support case progression through risk approval and underwriting processes, including preliminary indications and notifications.

The role is at EO level, with potential to work closely with underwriting teams and progress to G7 Business Manager. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
