Job summary

Culina Logistics is seeking an Assistant Transport Manager in Tilbury to oversee 24/7 transport operations, lead a depot team and assist the Transport Manager with cost control and planning.

The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, 42.5 hours per week, with duties spanning staff management, KPI delivery and safety compliance. Applicants should have FMCG transport experience and strong supervision skills.

Qualifications

• Experience in transport operations, preferably FMCG.
• Experience in leading a team and driving performance.
• Good numeracy and ability to manage costs.

Responsibilities

• Manage Depot Transport staff to execute Traffic plans and meet service levels.
• Control costs in line with budget/forecast expectations.
• Ensure fleet is on the road and declared for planning.
• Develop and mentor the team; deliver training and development plans.
• Ensure staff are trained and equipment is up to date.
• Ensure compliance with relevant statutes and regulations.
• Monitor suppliers and review maintenance cost reports.

Job Description

Reporting to the Transport Manager, the Assistant Transport Manager is responsible for the 24/7 Transport operations, managing the Transport Team and supporting the Transport Manager in ensuring that costs are controlled in line with budget / forecast expectations.

This is a full time, permanent role, working Monday to Friday, 42.5 hours per week.

Key Duties of a Assistant Transport Manager:

• Manage the Depot Transport staff to execute Traffic plans to enable delivery of products to customers within agreed service levels
• Reduce non contract maintenance and damage spends through the use of vehicle passports, daily confirmation of spend, in conjunction with other Culina depots
• Ensure that all available fleet is on the road and declared to enable the Planning Team to plan the resource
• Motivate and develop the team through engagement, training and personal development plans
• Ensure all staff are fully trained and have the correct equipment
• Ensure that the Transport team comply with all relevant statutes and regulations
• Communicate with 3rd Party hauliers in regard to control of all reported defects on drop trailers left for pre loading
• Check and approve maintenance cost reports and related invoices
• Ensure annual MOTs and service intervals on all fleet equipment are carried out on time
• Monitor, Audit and Control suppliers
• Attend Monthly Customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport Manager
• Supports communication throughout department including team briefings and publication of KPIs
• Support implementation of service improvements in conjunction with customers and other areas of the business
• Generate and implement ideas with regards to staff and operational changes, which will help drive continuous improvement
• Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff, both in your department and across the wider business
• Be responsible for the maintenance and fuel aspect of Transport Budget, to include various KPI’s and costs
• Support the company in regard to reducing its carbon footprint, for example reducing road miles
• Ability to deputise for the Transport Manager

Qualifications

• Transport Operational experience, ideally within a FMCG environment.
• Previous experience managing and motivating a team
• Demonstrable experience managing a broad range of Employee Relations (ER) matters.
• Good knowledge of Driver and vehicle compliance.
• Experience of operating in a closed book, shared user environment
• Problem solving in a pressurised environment
• CPC qualification is desirable but not essential
• Planning and organising skills with a high level of numeracy
• IT Literate - proficient in MS Packages
