Job Description

Reporting to the Transport Manager, the Assistant Transport Manager will be responsible for the 24/7 transport operations, managing the transport team, and supporting the Transport Manager in ensuring that costs are controlled in line with budget and forecast expectations.

Working hours: 4 on 4 off nights, 19:00-07:00 (average of 38.5 hours weekly).

Salary: £38,000 per annum.

Key Duties of an Assistant Transport Manager:

• Manage depot transport staff to execute traffic plans, ensuring delivery of products within service levels.
• Reduce non-contract maintenance and damage costs through vehicle passports and daily spend confirmations, in collaboration with other Culina depots.
• Ensure all available fleet is on the road and declared to assist planning.
• Motivate and develop the team through engagement, training, and personal development plans.
• Ensure staff are fully trained and equipped.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant statutes and regulations.
• Communicate with third-party hauliers regarding defect control on drop trailers.
• Check and approve maintenance cost reports and invoices.
• Ensure timely completion of MOTs and service intervals for all fleet equipment.
• Monitor, audit, and control suppliers.
• Attend monthly customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport Manager.
• Support communication within the department through team briefings and KPI publications.
• Implement service improvements in collaboration with customers and other departments.
• Generate ideas for staff and operational improvements to drive continuous improvement.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff.
• Manage the transport budget, including fuel and maintenance costs, and monitor relevant KPIs.
• Support initiatives to reduce the company's carbon footprint, such as minimizing road miles.
• Deputise for the Transport Manager when needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar role.
• Supervisory or management experience in an FMCG environment.
• Strong team leadership skills, with the ability to set clear objectives and motivate teams.
• Knowledge of tachograph, driving rules, and regulations.
• Excellent planning, organizational, and numeracy skills.
• Problem-solving skills under pressure.
• Effective communication skills at all levels, both verbal and written.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to thrive in a competitive, demanding environment.
