Job summary

Brighton College Prep School is seeking an Assistant Teacher to join Year 1 on a full-time, fixed-term basis until January 2027. A Level 3 qualification or above is required, and the role is integrated into school life with term-time hours and additional after-school duties.

Core hours are 7.45am–4.00pm, with a 30-minute lunch and a 15-minute break, plus weekly after-school clubs and holiday club support. A contributory pension, life cover, and other benefits are included.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with teachers on termly and weekly planning to ensure continuity and progression across the year group.
  • Proactively arrange and set up engaging learning environments, including outdoor areas, for effective pupil use.
  • Apply knowledge of the EYFS framework when planning, delivering and assessing interventions.
  • Support specialist teachers in curriculum delivery and school events.
  • Share responsibility for the pastoral care of children and foster positive relationships among pupils and staff.
  • Liaise with the Learning Support team and assist class teachers in creating a stimulating classroom environment.
  • Carry out observations of children and record assessments on Tapestry, the school’s online learning journal.
  • Represent the school professionally at Open Mornings, events and when speaking with prospective parents.
  • Attend INSET days, school functions and undertake continuous professional development.
  • Act as a positive role model in speech, dress, behaviour and care of equipment.
  • Run a weekly after-school club on a chosen theme and support the after-school group two days per week.

Job description

Brighton College Prep School is seeking an Assistant Teacher to start as soon as possible. This is a full-time, fixed-term role working in Year 1 until January 2027, with the possibility of an extension. The successful candidate will be fully integrated into the life of the school and Brighton College as a whole. A level 3 qualification or above is required.

Core hours are 7.45am to 4.00pm, Monday to Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break and an additional 15-minute unpaid break. The role also includes four hours per week supporting Rockhoppers After School Club until 6pm on two days, one hour per week running an after-school club until 5pm, and one week per year supporting the Rockhoppers Holiday Club. The position is term-time only (33 weeks) plus the additional holiday club week. Some flexibility with start and finish times is required. Annual leave entitlement is included in the salary, and holidays must be taken outside of working weeks.
