Job summary

The Salvation Army in Ilford is seeking an Assistant Support Worker to join the residential service at Malachi Place. You will work with our Support Team to empower vulnerable clients, help with daily administration and reception duties, and support successful operation of the centre.

  • Work with Support Workers to empower vulnerable clients to move on and break the cycle of homelessness.
  • Complete day-to-day administration tasks including reception duties to support centre operations.
  • Demonstrate understanding and motivation to engage with homeless clients.
  • Ensure the centre runs smoothly and supports residents' needs.

Job description

Working hours: 35 hours per weekInterview date: To be confirmedMalachi Place is a pioneering residential service, based in Ilford, accommodating 42 people, including people with no recourse to public funds. The role of an Assistant Support Worker with The Salvation Army is an inspirational one and key to achieving successful outcomes for our vulnerable clients. We are looking for highly motivated individuals to join our Support Team. You will work with our Support Workers to empower individuals to move on and break the cycle of homelessness. You will also complete day to day activities including administration tasks and reception duties to support the successful operation of the centre.

Key Responsibilities:

For these Assistant level roles, direct experience of working with homeless people is not essential; however, you will need to demonstrate to us that you have the understanding, willingness and motivation to engage with our homeless clients.

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:
  • Motivation towards supporting vulnerable clients to achieve focussed and positive life outcomes
  • Own initiative towards problem solving which will benefit colleagues and clients and improve standards
  • Good customer service and time management skills with ability to prioritise workload
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient IT skills (including Microsoft packages)

Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, a criminal record check (DBS: Enhanced with the barred list DBS Disclosure) and evidence of your Right to Work in the UK in line with Home Office requirements.
