Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking compassionate, dynamic people to support homeless individuals in a harm-reduction, trauma-informed setting. You will help residents access services, develop independent living skills and work toward personal goals.

Working hours are 37.5 per week (including evenings and weekends); interview date is to be confirmed. The role focuses on helping residents transition from rough sleeping to stable living with health and wellbeing support.

Job description

We are looking for compassionate, confident and dynamic people who want to make a difference in the lives of homeless people. Our role is to provide a safe place to stay and to access support for people who have substance use issues and complex needs. The service delivery model is rooted in the harm reduction approach, based on trauma informed practice, is strength-based and uses person centred approaches.

Working as part of a dedicated team, you will provide practical and emotional support, helping residents access services, develop independent living skills and work towards their personal goals. You will build positive relationships with individuals, encouraging them to make informed choices and supporting them on their journey towards greater stability and independence.

The key focus of our work is to help the transition from rough sleeping into a stable lifestyle. This includes individual support with all aspects of health and wellbeing and social engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the delivery of support to homeless clients with complex needs.
  • Work with clients as part of person-centred support planning, which includes aiding access to meaningful activities.
  • Work with clients as part of the Support Team, assisting to ensure the needs and actions within person-centred plans are addressed in a professional manner.
Key Qualifications

  • Good customer service and time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload.

It is important to apply for SSSC registration as soon as possible and within three months of starting your role. You must be registered within six months.
