Job summary

Wates Smartspace is recruiting an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a major Bedfordshire project. You will assist with commercial management from pre-construction through to completion, supporting procurement, cost control, valuations and final accounts under guidance.

You will work closely with site, commercial, design and supply chain teams in a supportive environment that encourages learning and progression, with exposure to high-value projects and a people‑first culture.

Qualifications

• Degree or working towards a qualification in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
• Good numerical and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
• Proactive approach and willingness to learn.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience on construction projects is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Support the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to completion.
• Assist with procurement, subcontractor engagement and cost control activities.
• Prepare valuations, cost reports and forecasts under guidance.
• Support management of variations and change control.
• Assist with preparation and agreement of final accounts.
• Collaborate with site, commercial, design and supply chain teams to ensure processes align with procedures.
