Job summary

Skilled Careers is seeking two Assistant Quantity Surveyors to join a leading Kent main contractor in the Maidstone area. You will support the commercial team, manage subcontracts, and gain exposure to a wide range of projects.

You'll work with pre-construction, design and delivery teams, progressing toward managing subcontract packages and your own contracts. A relevant degree and MRICS/CIOB progress are advantageous. Competitive salary and comprehensive package offered.

Qualifications

• Experience in the construction industry, preferably for a main contractor.
• Knowledge of standard forms of contract, particularly JCT and/or NEC.
• Experience with subcontract procurement and package management.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Experience with commercial/cost-management systems would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support the Quantity Surveyor in commercial management of projects and work packages.
• Assist with procurement of subcontractors and tender evaluation.
• Prepare and issue subcontract documentation including terms, prices and programmes.
• Manage subcontract packages including interim assessments, payments, variations and change.
• Measurement and valuations from drawings and site records.
• Assist with monthly client valuations/applications and commercial notices.
• Support cost reporting, CVRs, and monthly commercial dashboards.
• Produce and maintain detailed cost plans and monitor expenditure.

Position: Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Location: Maidstone area, Kent

Contract type: Permanent

Sector: Building / main contractor

The role:

Due to some major project awards the need has arisen to recruit for 2 Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team heading up Kent's construction contracts. These Assistant Quantity Surveyor roles will expose the successful hires to wide range of construction projects and within thismulti-disciplinary UK top 20 Tier 1 main contractor you will be working closely with the pre-construction, design, delivery and wider commercial teams.

As the Assistant Quantity Surveyor you will be supporting the Quantity Surveyor and Senior Surveyors with the commercial management of projects, while developing your experience and progress towards taking on the management of subcontract packages and eventually your own projects.

Key responsibilities:

• Support the Quantity Surveyor in the commercial management of projects and work packages.
• Assist with the procurement of subcontractors (preparation of enquiry documentation, tender analysis and evaluation).
• Prepare and issue subcontract documentation, including terms, prices and programmes.
• Manage subcontract work packages (interim assessments, payments, variations and change).
• Measurement and valuations ofworks from drawings and site records.
• Assist with the preparation and submission of monthly client valuations/applications.
• Assist with the preparation of commercial and contractual notices to clients and subcontractors.
• Change management in accordance with the relevant form of contract, including preparation of compensation event quotations where applicable.
• Maintain detailed schedules of value and subcontractor liabilities.
• Assist with the preparation of Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) and monthly commercial reports.
• Produce and maintain detailed cost plans, monitoring expenditure and forecasting costs to complete.
• Review and critically assess expenditure reports produced by internal cost-management systems.
• Use commercial systems to report cost and value accurately.
• Liaise with site teams to ensure records are maintained.
• Attend client, subcontractor and supply-chain meetings.
• Monitor commercial risks and assist in identifying opportunities to maximise value and protect project margin.
• Support the commercial team with project mobilisation and ongoing commercial governance.
• Work collaboratively with Pre-Construction, Design and Delivery teams.
• Assist with weekly progress and risk-reduction meetings and provide commercial information for client reporting.

About you:

• Experience working within the construction industry, preferably for a main contractor.
• Experience of Design & Build projects.
• Good understanding of construction processes and commercial management.
• Knowledge of standard forms of contract, particularly JCT and/or NEC.

• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Experience with commercial/cost-management systemswould be advantageous.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider project team.
• A relevant degree and/or practical experience in a commercial construction environment.
• Ideally working towards professional membership of RICS or CIOB, with MRICS/MCIOB or equivalent professional qualification advantageous.
