This is a genuinely rare opportunity to shape a brand new commercial function from the ground up. A long-established, family-run specialist commercial roofing and external refurbishment contractor is creating its first dedicated Quantity Surveyor role, and they are looking for someone with a couple of years' experience who wants real ownership, real mentoring and a clear pathway to grow into a senior commercial position over the next two to three years.
The business has been trading continuously since 1979, operating as Principal Contractor across London and the South East. It delivers work on existing buildings across education, industrial, healthcare, heritage, residential block and public sector projects. As a manufacturer-neutral contractor, recommendations are based on condition, suitability and value rather than loyalty to any one system, giving real technical variety across the project portfolio.
Working closely with the Senior Contracts Manager, you will support the commercial side of live projects, protect project margin and build the skills and experience to progress within the business as the commercial department grows around you.
Assist the Senior Contracts Manager with the commercial administration of live projects from order through to final account
Prepare interim valuations and applications for payment, working from site progress information provided by the Contracts Managers and Contracts Supervisors
Check and process subcontractor payment applications and invoices against measured work and agreed rates
Measure completed and part-completed work on site and cross-reference against valuations and cost reports
Maintain accurate project cost trackers and assist with monthly cost and margin reporting
Record variations and instructions, ensuring these are agreed and confirmed in writing before valuation
Support the preparation of final accounts including collating records of instructions, variations and agreed costs
Liaise with the Procurement team on subcontractor orders, rates and account queries
Attend site visits across London and the South East to verify progress, take measurements and meet with Contracts Managers and clients
Assist with cash flow forecasting and cost-to-complete reporting on live contracts
Maintain an accurate audit trail of commercial correspondence, valuations and payment records
