Job summary

Carmichael UK is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support a major rail framework in the London area. This Tier 1 contractor offers mentoring, structured progression, and exposure to high-profile rail projects.

You will assist with cost management, commercial reporting, and subcontractor accounts while developing skills on NEC-based contracts within a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Graduate Quantity Surveyor.
  • Rail project experience preferred (Network Rail, HS2, London Underground, Crossrail, TfL or similar).
  • Good understanding of NEC contracts.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced project environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the management of project costs and commercial reporting.
  • Support the preparation of applications for payment and valuations.
  • Administer subcontractor accounts, including payments and variations.
  • Assist with cost forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
  • Support the preparation and management of compensation events and change control.
  • Produce cost reports and commercial documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC contracts and company procedures.
  • Work closely with operational teams to maximise project profitability.

We are working with a leading Tier 1 contractor delivering some of the UK's most high-profile rail and infrastructure projects. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial team on a major rail framework.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their career within a well-established business that offers structured progression, mentoring, and exposure to major projects.

Key Responsibilities
