Job summary

Building Careers UK is representing a growing housebuilder seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor for their new build housing projects. Based in Whitchurch, Shropshire, you will support procurement, cost reporting, and final accounts across the commercial team.

You will work closely with Site Managers and Buyers, assist with subcontractor packages, valuations, and budget management, and help maintain commercial records. A degree in QS or similar and full UK driving licence are preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor in housebuilding or residential construction.
• Knowledge of subcontract procurement and cost management.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Degree qualification or working towards QS/Commercial Management.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• As Assistant Quantity Surveyor you will assist in the commercial management of new build housing developments from procurement through to final account.
• Support the preparation of subcontractor packages, enquiries, and orders.
• Assist with subcontractor valuations, payments, and final accounts.
• Monitor project costs and assist with cost reporting and CVRs.
• Manage variations and maintain accurate commercial records.
• Support procurement activities and supplier negotiations.
• Work closely with Site Managers, Buyers, and the wider commercial team.
• Assist with forecasting and budget management.
• Build strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure commercial procedures are followed throughout the project lifecycle.

The Role

As Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for:

• Assisting in the commercial management of new build housing developments from procurement through to final account

The Ideal Candidate

The successful Assistant Quantity Surveyor will have:

• Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor within housebuilding or residential construction
• Alternatively, experience with a Main Contractor looking to move into the housebuilding sector will also be considered
• Good commercial awareness and a willingness to develop within a supportive team
• Knowledge of subcontract procurement and cost management
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• A proactive attitude with strong attention to detail
• Degree qualified or working towards a qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management
• Full UK Driving Licence
