The psychology service is composed of a consultant clinical psychologist and assistant psychologist providing clinical input across the service. The main aspects of the role are completing a range of assessments (e.g., personality, cognitive, mood, neuropsychological, and behavioural), providing therapeutic input to individuals or groups, and contributing to care or treatment plans (e.g., devising behaviour management programmes). The team is also actively involved in providing in-house training to staff, reflective practice, and clinical supervision.
Main duties of the job
Main duties of the role:-
- To undertake protocol-based psychological assessments, including basic neuropsychological tests, questionnaires, self-report measures, rating scales, observations, and semi-structured interviews as directed by a qualified psychologist.
- To assist in the preparation of Care Programme Approach (CPA) reports under supervision from a qualified psychologist.
- To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving psychological treatment and/or management of service users' problems, under supervision.
- To attend and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings and reviews, such as reporting assessment results, handing over behaviour guidelines, or providing feedback on treatment progress, under the guidance of a qualified psychologist.
- To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.
- To meet and advise relatives and other professionals under the guidance of a qualified psychologist.
- To participate in initial assessments to help identify potential new service users' suitability for admission.
- To give professional advice and support to care, education, and other staff involved in behaviour management programmes in consultation with a qualified psychologist.
- To liaise or work directly with all specialists and professionals concerned on specific cases and programmes as required.
- To assist the Consultant Psychologist and other clinicians in clinical work and other duties as required.
- To maintain service user records, including clinical observations, notes, tests, and other relevant data.
- To monitor and maintain psychology service resources and inform the Consultant Psychologist of additional needs.
- To participate in regular clinical supervision, with at least one hour weekly in a confidential setting, alongside supervision for complex work.
- To assist in designing and implementing service development projects as needed.
- To organize own workload under supervision of a qualified psychologist and line manager.
- To maintain client and business confidentiality at all times.
- To pursue continual personal development to enhance skills and role.
- To perform other reasonable duties as required by the service.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Degree in Psychology
- Master’s Degree would be beneficial
- Experience in a similar role in hospital inpatient or community settings
- Experience facilitating patient therapeutic groups and delivering psychological assessments, formulation, and interventions within evidence-based models (e.g., CBT, CFT, DBT)
