Job description

We are looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join Sheffield City Council's Building Safety & Compliance service. This role will support the delivery of projects and programmes that help ensure council homes remain safe, compliant and well managed. Working within a busy project environment, you will provide project support, information management and performance reporting across a range of Compliance activities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with data, information and insight, and wants to use those skills to support the successful delivery of projects and programmes. You will support Project Managers and the wider Compliance function by:

Key responsibilities
  • Coordinating project information, records and reporting activities.
  • Producing and maintaining project schedules, risk information, performance reports and management information.
  • Supporting the monitoring of project costs, progress, risks and key milestones.
  • Analysing performance information and helping identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintaining accurate project records and ensuring information is up to date and accessible.
  • Supporting stakeholder communications and helping maintain effective relationships with colleagues, contractors, and partners.
  • Assisting with audit, governance, procurement, and contract administration activities.

A significant part of the role will involve working with information and data to support decision-making. You will help develop reports, track programme performance and ensure that managers have access to accurate and timely information. The ability to organise, interpret and present information clearly is therefore just as important as project management skills.

Key requirements
  • Has strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Is confident working with data and reporting tools.
  • Can analyse information and present findings clearly to different audiences.
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enjoys solving problems and working collaboratively with others.
  • Has experience supporting projects, programmes, performance management or information management activities, or can demonstrate strong transferable skills.
  • Is interested in developing a career in project and programme delivery.

Experience of using data and insight to support decision-making, performance improvement or programme reporting would be particularly valuable in this role. Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
