Job summary

Optima UK Inc Ltd is seeking an experienced Assistant Production Manager based in Leicestershire to oversee day-to-day workshop operations in a busy sheet metal fabrication environment. The role requires hands-on leadership with responsibility for meeting production targets, quality standards and customer deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in press brake, laser cutting and welding, plus a proven track record supervising teams.

Qualifications

• Hands-on background in sheet metal fabrication.
• Experience in supervisory or team leadership roles.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of laser cutting, press brake and welding processes.

Responsibilities

• Support the Production Manager with day-to-day workshop operations.
• Coordinate production activities to ensure jobs are completed on time.
• Plan and monitor workflow across laser cutting, press brake and welding/fabrication.
• Assist with allocation of work and prioritise production requirements.
• Provide technical guidance to workshop staff as required.
• Ensure products meet the defined quality standards.
• Monitor output, quality and efficiency of production.
• Identify and resolve production bottlenecks and issues.
• Carry out quality checks and address non-conforming work.
• Liaise with other departments to maintain production schedules.
• Ensure machinery, tools and equipment are used safely.
• Promote good housekeeping and a safe working environment.
• Support training and development of production staff.
• Work hands-on within the production environment when required.

About the Role

Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced and motivated Assistant Production Manager to support the day-to-day running of the production department. We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Production Manager to join a busy and growing manufacturing company based in the Leicestershire area. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced manufacturing or fabrication professional looking to take the next step in their career. The ideal candidate will have a strong hands-on background within sheet metal fabrication, with practical experience in press brake operation, laser cutting and welding. You will support the Production Manager with the smooth and efficient running of the workshop, helping to ensure production targets, quality standards and customer deadlines are achieved. You will play an important role in coordinating the production team, monitoring workflow and maintaining high standards of workmanship across the department.

Duties Include

• Supporting the Production Manager with the day-to-day running of the workshop


• Coordinating and overseeing production activities to ensure jobs are completed on time


• Planning and monitoring workflow across laser cutting, press brake and welding/fabrication


• Assisting with the allocation of work and prioritising production requirements


• Providing technical support and guidance to workshop staff where required


• Ensuring products are manufactured to the required quality standards


• Monitoring production output, quality and efficiency


• Identifying and resolving production issues and bottlenecks


• Carrying out quality checks and ensuring non-conforming work is addressed


• Liaising with other departments to ensure production schedules are maintained


• Ensuring machinery, tools and equipment are used safely and correctly


• Promoting good housekeeping and maintaining a safe working environment


• Supporting the training and development of production staff


• Working hands-on within the production environment when required

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have a strong background within sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing, together with previous experience in a supervisory, team leader or production-based role.

Essential experience includes

• Practical experience with press brake machinery


• Experience with laser cutting


• Strong MIG and/or TIG welding experience


• Previous experience within a sheet metal or fabrication environment


• Ability to read and interpret engineering/technical drawings


• Good understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes


• Experience coordinating or supervising production activities


• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality


• Good organisational and problem-solving skills


• Ability to prioritise workloads and meet production deadlines


• Good communication and teamwork skills


• A reliable, hands-on and proactive approach to work

The ideal candidate will be someone who understands the complete fabrication process, from laser cutting and press brake forming through to welding and final assembly, and who is confident supporting and coordinating a busy production team.

This role would suit an experienced Fabricator, Welder, Press Brake Operator, Laser Operator, Chargehand, Team Leader or Supervisor looking to progress into an Assistant Production Manager position.
