Job summary

Lift Bexleyheath is seeking an Assistant Principal to join the Senior Leadership Team, focusing on behaviour and attendance, shaping a positive, inclusive culture where every child can thrive. You will provide visible pastoral leadership, line manage colleagues, and develop strategies with families and external partners to ensure high expectations and safeguarding.

This role offers opportunities to lead two whole-school improvement projects and contribute to staff development within Lift Schools

Qualifications

  • QTS and a degree-level qualification, with a PGCE, plus a strong classroom track record.
  • Experience leading behaviour and attendance strategies to raise outcomes.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with families, students and external partners.

  • Lead on behaviour and attendance initiatives to improve access to learning.
  • Shape a positive, inclusive school culture and high expectations.
  • Develop and support staff through coaching, appraisal and professional development.
  • Analyse attendance and behaviour data to identify priority actions.

  • Support safeguarding and oversee wellbeing through visible leadership.
  • Drive whole-school improvement projects in partnership with the SLT.

Job description

We have anopportunity for an Assistant Principal to join our Senior Leadership Team at Lift Bexleyheath, with a key focus on behaviour and attendance.
About the role

As an Assistant Principal and key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will play an important role in shaping a positive, inclusive and aspirational culture where every child can thrive. Leading on behaviour and attendance, you will work with colleagues, students, families and the wider school community to ensure high expectations are consistently upheld, and every student is supported to achieve their best.

You will provide confident and visible leadership, embedding effective pastoral systems and ensuring that behaviour and attendance are a shared priority across the school. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will see leadership as an opportunity to be of service to others, enabling colleagues to do their best work, removing barriers and helping the whole school community to thrive. You will also line manage a number of teaching and support colleagues,providing clear direction, developing their practice and creating opportunities for them to grow and succeed.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead on behaviour and attendance: Develop and deliver effective strategies that improve attendance, promotepositive behaviour andensure students are supported to make the most of their education.
  • Build a positive school culture: Promote high expectations and create a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where students feel valued, supported and able to succeed.
  • Provide strong leadership: Contribute to the development and delivery of the school improvement plan, providing clear direction and supporting colleagues to achieve shared goals.
  • Develop and support colleagues: Line manage staff effectively through regular coaching, feedback, appraisal and professional development, helping colleagues to develop their skills and reach their potential.
  • Use data effectively: Analyse attendance, behaviour, progress and attainment data to identify priorities, monitor impact and put targeted interventions in place where needed.
  • Work in partnership with families and agencies: Build positive relationships with parents and carers and work effectively with external agencies to support students' attendance, behaviour, wellbeing and achievement.
  • Supporting safeguarding and student wellbeing: Working alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead to provide visible leadership for safeguarding across the school, ensuring robust systems, processes and practice are in place to keep children and young people safe.
  • Whole School Improvement Projects: Alongside leading on behaviour and attendance, you will take responsibility for two additional whole school improvement projects, providing strategic leadership and driving meaningful improvement across the school.
What we're looking for
  • Qualified and experienced: QTS and a degree-level qualification, with a PGCE alongside an excellent track record as an excellent classroom practitioner and successful middle leader.
  • Effective behaviour and attendance leadership: Experience of developing and implementing strategies that improve attendance, promote positive behaviour and contribute to whole-school improvement.
  • A collaborative leader: The ability to communicate clearly, build positive relationships and work effectively with colleagues, students, families and external partners.
  • Committed to developing others: The ability to set high expectations while providing the support, coaching and challenge colleagues need to grow and succeed.
