Assistant Network Manager / 2nd Line Technician

Reigate - Onsite in School

Salary: £30,000 - £33,000

Role Overview:

Our client seeks an IT Engineer based on a school site to join our managed service team as an Assistant Network Manager. The role involves supporting ICT infrastructure and services within the school environment.

Key Tasks:
  1. ICT Support Service On-site:
    • Provide specialist ICT support to ensure high-quality learning facilities.
    • Assist the Network Manager and potentially lead satellite sites, requiring the ability to work independently.
    • Support staff and pupils with ICT requirements using your skills and training.
    • Maintain specialist equipment, perform repairs, and ensure safety and quality standards.
    • Advise and guide school staff on ICT matters.
    • Communicate technical information effectively, tailored to the audience.
    • Implement work programmes under supervision.
    • Manage stock within budget, conduct audits, and maintain records.
    • Comply with policies on child protection, health and safety, security, and confidentiality.
    • Mentor junior staff members.
    • Ensure compliance with Data Protection Act 1984 regarding data security and accuracy.
  2. Technical Expertise:
    • Connect and check hardware operation.
    • Set up desktop environments and install software.
    • Perform basic network setup and maintenance tasks.
    • Manage user accounts and utilize utilities for network monitoring.
  3. Processes:
    • Follow acceptance testing procedures for new ICT equipment.
    • Keep records of hardware and software.
    • Maintain software libraries and original application copies.
    • Transport IT equipment within the site.
    • Follow disaster recovery and maintenance plans.
    • Implement backup and virus protection procedures.
    • Log support requests and investigate issues, escalating when necessary.
    • Record time spent on tasks and compare to expectations.
  4. Holiday Work:
    • Potential involvement in project work during holidays.
  5. Other Responsibilities:
    • Monitor legal and LEA responsibilities.
    • Develop and follow H&S procedures.
    • Self-regulate and perform other tasks as assigned by management.
Work Experience Requirements:
  • Experience in helpdesk or support environment.
Education Requirements:
  • Degree or Masters in Computing, or Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), or equivalent experience.
  • Additional specialist IT qualifications (e.g., Aruba, Cisco, HP).
