Job summary

Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting an Assistant Management Accountant to support timely management information for budget holders and senior finance teams. You will work under supervision, reviewing performance against budgets and advising non-financial managers on financial management and resource strategies.

You will develop ad-hoc reports, participate in budget meetings, and support cost improvement planning while ensuring accurate data and effective communication

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 5 or professional accountancy qualification or equivalent experience.
• 5 GCSEs including Maths and English.
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
• Recent/related financial or management accounting experience.
• Ability to analyse financial data and resolve discrepancies.
• Experience developing systems or implementing policies to improve services.
• Experience budgeting for external departments, services or programmes.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Enthusiastic team player.
• Willing to adapt to changing service needs including AI and automation knowledge.
• Experience with Oracle General Ledger or other recognised ledger systems.
• Knowledge of PbR/PLICS.
• Experience in the NHS/Foundation Trust environment.
• Experience in a large organisation with complex management structures.
• Knowledge of NHS funding flows and financial framework.

Responsibilities

• Discuss financial queries with budget holders and address complex issues.
• Provide financial advice to non-financial managers.
• Produce ad-hoc reports and timely analyses.
• Prepare for budget meetings and lead routine budget holder sessions.
• Support Cost Improvement Planning with data inputs and costings.
• Investigate variances and adjust budgets or expenditures accordingly.
• Prepare information for business cases including costings and activity data.
• Translate data into clear formats to aid decision-making.
• Forecast likely expenditure and suggest management actions when over budget.
• Maintain high stakeholder satisfaction across the finance function.
