Job description

Assistant Librarian

Collegiate

  • Location: Bristol
  • Closing date: Sunday 13 September 2026
  • Hours: 32.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, from 10.30am to 5.30pm
  • Job type: Part-time, permanent
  • Salary: £19,468 - £20,247 per annum (based on £27,563 - £28,666 FTE)

We are looking for a dynamic and highly capable Assistant Librarian to support the Senior Librarian with the day-to-day running of the Libraries, and their resources at both the Prep and Senior School sites whilst contributing to the wider life of this busy holistic school community. This post is offered from the Autumn Term 2026.

Our school has a strong and vibrant reading culture, where the Libraries and resources are embedded into both the curriculum and wellbeing of staff and students. In addition to having excellent administrative, digital, and inter-personal skills, you should be a voracious reader who enjoys a hands-on approach to promoting a love of reading in young people.

The successful candidate will relish the opportunity to be a crucial part of the excellent provision already in place and further developing the Libraries into thriving centres of learning. Working across both the Senior and Prep Schools facilitates a degree of autonomy and thus it is imperative that you are able to work with initiative, as well as cohesively with others.

The hours for this role will be for 32.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, from 10.30am to 5.30pm. This includes a 30 minute unpaid lunch break. For the right candidate there can be some flexibility in start and finish times, this can be discussed further with the Senior Librarian.

The role is term time (35 weeks including INSET), plus 2 additional weeks worked flexibly during the school holidays.

You will receive a pro-rata salary between £19,468 - £20,247 per annum (based on £27,563 - £28,666 FTE), depending on skills, experience and qualifications. This includes paid holiday based on 25 days per year plus 8 bank holidays pro-rata. Staff benefits include free lunches during term time, free on-site parking and use of the school's sports facilities. The school also offers a discount on school fees for staff at the school.

Safeguarding commitment

We are committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion among our workforce. Collegiate School is proud of its diverse student body and dedicated to attracting and retaining staff who feel respected and able to give their best, ensuring a diverse and inclusive workforce that better reflects our community. We aim to truly represent all sections of society and applications are welcomed for all suitably qualified candidates.

Collegiate is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The safeguarding responsibilities of the post include:

  • To promote the safeguarding and welfare of children and young persons for whom they are responsible or come into contact with;
  • To be supportive of and committed to the School's policies on Child Protection;
  • The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess its suitability to work with children.
