Job summary

Lancashire County Council is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Engineer to join the Development Control Team, delivering highway improvements for new developments across Lancashire. You will manage Section 38/278 agreements, review submissions and oversee adoption of new highways.

This role offers hybrid working, a supportive team, and opportunities to work on diverse residential developments, ensuring roads and junctions meet county standards while developing professional skills.

Qualifications

  • Has experience or knowledge of highway engineering, civil engineering or development-related infrastructure.
  • Can interpret technical drawings and engineering information.
  • Communicates confidently with a range of stakeholders.
  • Is organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Enjoys problem-solving and working collaboratively within a team.
  • Is keen to develop their technical knowledge and professional skills.

Responsibilities

  • Managing Section 38 and Section 278 agreements.
  • Assessing highway design submissions and technical information.
  • Liaising with developers, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitoring and supervising highway construction works on site.
  • Supporting the delivery of safe, sustainable and high-quality highway infrastructure.
  • Helping to ensure developments meet county standards and are delivered efficiently.
