Job summary

SEND Secondary School is seeking a Deputy Headteacher to join our senior leadership team. You will work with the Headteacher and leadership team to drive whole-school improvement, set priorities, and oversee day-to-day management.

A DBS on the Update Service is required, and strong safeguarding and inclusion values are essential. The role involves leading school improvement, ensuring personalised provision informed by EHCPs, and supporting staff with autism-informed approaches.

Qualifications

• Proven track record of improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
• Experience leading staff and delivering improvement beyond their own classroom or team.
• Understand how to translate EHCP outcomes and pupils' starting points into meaningful learning, support and progress.
• Be able to evaluate provision, identify priorities and turn strategic plans into consistent day-to-day practice.
• Show a strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and high expectations for every pupil.

Responsibilities

• Lead school improvement: Set clear priorities, evaluate their impact and use evidence and professional judgement to improve teaching, curriculum pathways and pupil outcomes.
• Oversee personalised provision: Ensure EHCP outcomes, annual review priorities, pupil strengths, communication profiles and family knowledge inform ambitious plans for learning and support.
• Support consistent practice: Help staff apply specialist knowledge, autism-informed approaches and therapeutic advice to pupils' changing communication, sensory and regulation needs.
• Contribute to school management: Lead delegated priorities, support strong safeguarding practice and help develop high-quality, financially sustainable specialist provision.
• Collaborate with Headteacher and leadership team to drive the school's next stage of improvement.

The role

• Monday to Friday 8:30 - 16:00
